National Equality Panel report reveals deeply divided Britain
The long-awaited report of the National Equality Panel – described by Harriet Harman as an ‘inequality bible’ - does not make happy reading for a Government that invited people to judge them on whether Britain had become a more equal society after more than ten years in office.

In the space of 30 years, Britain has moved from being among the most egalitarian countries in the developed world to being one of the most unequal. And, whilst the current government has stemmed the rise in inequality, its policies have made little impact on wide inequalities in earnings, wealth, education, employment and health outcomes.

Commenting on the Panel's findings, Church Urban Fund CEO, Tim Bissett, said, “This report is shocking in highlighting the extent of poverty and inequality that continues to exist in this country. As Christians, we believe our faith compels us to confront the scandal of poverty in one of the richest nations in history. We will continue to work with churches and other organisations to alleviate the effects of poverty in our poorest communities.”

The Church Urban Fund is a vital part of the Church’s response to poverty in this country, focusing on the poorest areas in this country. We do this by providing financial and practical support to churches and individuals working to bring about change in their local communities.
